English: Newdigate House, Castle Gate The French Marshal Tallard, captured by Marlborough at Blenheim in 1704, lived on parole here from 1705-11. This handsome house is now a restaurant. It is hard to imagine the thought processes of the 1960s planning authority which sanctioned the ugly brick slab stuck on the right and the tower block behind. Click http://www.nottshistory.org.uk/whatnall1928/newdigate_house.htm to find out more about the estimable Camille d'Hostun de la Baume, duc de Tallard, and celery.
