English: Warmwell House South East Front Built in around 1618 by John Trenchard around an earlier house, its most distinguished features can be found in the Dutch gabling of the south east front depicted here. The next owner was John Sadler who had married John Trenchard's youngest daughter, who inherited the house on his death. A distinguished and educated man from an old Shropshire family, John Sadler was a friend of Oliver Cromwell. Under his patronage he was appointed Masters of Chancery in 1644, Town Clerk of London in 1649, and in 1650 Master of Magdalen College Cambridge. He lost all these at the Restoration, as well as Crown property he'd purchased, and in 1665 his fine house in London fell victim to the Great Fire. These calamities and the 14 children he had to provide for, forced him to retire to Warmwell, where he spent his last days '...much disordered in his senses...'.
The house has been in the ownership of the Ross Skinner family since 1945, and was close to the RAF fighter station at RAF Warmwell that played a leading role in the Battle of Britain. No harm came to the house despite its close proximity to the airfield which came under frequent attack by the Luftwaffe, although the farmer at Warmwell, Mr. Westmacott, was tragically killed on the drive by a stray bomb. Grade I Listed.
