English: Blackfriars Rose Garden - Preaching Cross Accessed through a gate at the side of Coningsby Hospital in Widemarsh Street, the garden contains the ruins of the friary of the Blackfriars and a preaching cross. The Blackfriars, also known as the Friars Preachers, gave sermons to the locals from their preaching cross. The cross, which stood in the cemetery of the friars, is much restored and is the only one of its kind in England. The friary existed from the early 14th century and was dissolved in 1538.
