This template should be used for press sources which mention a Wikipedia page, as it will link the article's talk page to [[Wikipedia:Press coverage]].

This template automatically adds articles to [[:Category:Wikipedia pages referenced by the press]]. Oftentimes, the purpose of this is to contextualize talk page discussions about ongoing coverage of editorial disputes, and press coverage listed here may come from sources otherwise considered unreliable.

Use common sense, and do not use this template to link to [[WP:OUTING|outing]] of Wikipedia editors (e.g. forum threads where people are trying to [[WP:OUTING|dox]] users). Be mindful of guidelines such as [[WP:LINKLOVE]] and [[WP:ELBLP]], as well as the [[WP:BLP|biographies of living persons policy]] (which applies to all pages, including talk pages). When in doubt, discuss the appropriateness of the template and sources on the article's talk page, or consider seeking input at the [[WP:BLPN|Biographies of Living Persons Noticeboard]] or the [[WP:RSN|Reliable Sources Noticeboard]].

An optional unnamed parameter allows you to customize the name of the link to [[Wikipedia:Press coverage]]. For example, it may be more accurate to read "mentioned unfavorably", in case the original article becomes unavailable.

The {{para|subject}} parameter is optional and will display "''this article has been mentioned...''". Set {{para|subject|template}} to display "''this template has been mentioned...''", and so on.

Use {{para|collapsed|yes}} for a collapsed default display. To include additional sources, affix a number greater than 1 (i.e. 2, 3, etc.) to each parameter. Up to 30 sources can be added to the template.

Use {{para|nocat|true}} to suppress categorization of the page. This is usually for demo purposes, such as on a template documentation page.
